The project is coming along well. I’m still recording and should hopefully be done this week so I can finally start working to piece it all together! And so the past few days I have been really thinking a lot about the musical element and how I want the tracks to sound. Here are some musicians I find inspirational:

YACHT are one of the reasons I have become so interested in electronic/ambient music. I like the repetitivness of it, the simplicity of the sounds and how they have built the track up with percussion.

Brian Eno
Drift
I really enjoy Eno’s work and I could probably list hundreds of tracks here but Drift has always stuck out to me. I love how simple it is but it still manages to create and provoke an emotive response, something I really want to achieve with my tracks.

Les Revenants (Soundtrack)
Les Revenants (The Returned) is a soundtrack created by Mogwai for the french tv programme The Returned. The whole soundtrack is really exciting. When it comes to adding the musical elements to my tracks I don’t what the sounds to only be electronic. I want to experiment with strings, piano and even organ as this ties in with the Cathedral which is a big part of Lincoln. This soundtrack has a variation of different tracks, making it an inspiration to my project.

Imogen Heap
Bad Body Double
Imogen Heap is incredibly clever with sound. On this album, Ellipse, all of the sounds used in the tracks are what she has recorded around her own house then put them together to create tracks like this one. I particularly find this track inspiring because it has encouraged me to never discard a sound I’ve recorded as they can be manipulated to sound as you like, you just have to be creative! and this project is all about being creative.

This is a really mellow track but the blend of synth and strings is beautiful.

All of these tracks are very different but they all have elements I love and want to somehow blend together and put in my project. As mentioned before I would really like to experiment with the use of real instruments as well as electronic synthesisers and as my recording will hopefully all be completed this week and begin experimenting on Logic Pro. I don’t want the music to be the main focal point, I want the music and sounds of Lincoln to blend and create an emotive yet interesting piece of sound.
