Cathedral

Today I got a lot more recording done at the top of steep hill and in the Cathedral. I’m going to go back next week and record again so when it comes to putting the tracks together I can layer them and have a really full/rich sounding atmos track. I would have recorded a lot more today but it started to rain quite heavy and it seemed every person was having their hedge cut and so I didn’t want the sound of it to over power my recordings!! But I now have a free pass into the Cathedral for a year so can go up as much as I like. Also, I wanted to record the bells going off today on the hour but I missed them by a few minutes so hopefully I will have more success recording outside next week.

As for recording inside the Cathedral that went really well. The recordings are great and something really eerie about them with all the echoes of people talking and walking around the Cathedral. I wandered around the Cathedral with my recorder a few times to pick up as much as I could. I then sat in the middle of the hall and placed the recorder on the floor for 20 minutes and managed to get a great atmos track. Again, it sounds really quite spooky but I can layer these up and combine them to make a solid atmospheric base for the musical accompaniment. _DSC0004
I’m going to see next week if it is possible to record the organ and maybe people singing in the choir. If not I quite like the idea of experimenting with different organ sounds after listening to the organ piece at Frequency Festival a few weeks ago.
As well as recording at the Cathedral today I went to the Little Red Gallery and have finally got a date planned and a date to work to for the show case night – 12th December!! I’m really excited. I need to start planning it all though as Hazel is quite busy and can only do so much so I’m going to have to publicise and such on my own. Everything is coming together though. As I’m finishing the recordings, all the musical ideas are starting to flow and I’m going to start writing some bits tonight I think.
